Call for Papers

Scope:

The modern wireless and mobile communications scenario is characterized, among other features, by the increasing demand for high bit-rate multimedia applications, and by the desire to perceive and exercise a seamless and friendly communication system, irrespective of the media used and of the operating environment. This combines with the tumultuous growth in the range of provided services, from household/entertainment to business/finance. The end-user is also developing an attitude whereby many aspects of communication are considered as temporary and/or subject to negotiation, such as: the quality of service, the way information is delivered and displayed, the content/service provider, the network operator, and even the content of information itself. This is due to the high degree of mobility of the customer base, to the need to keep communication costs under control and again to the wide range of services offered. Therefore, the need for convenience and flexibility in access has to reconciled with cost effective resources to continue to exploit the market potential of the massive demands of an increasingly sophisticated and mobile-aware customer base. Also, adequate technology and operation strategies need be developed so that the end-user is freed from the technicalities involved in an end-to-end connection among nomadic users.

Industry, research and standardization bodies have been responding to the above challenges for several years, and they have come up with new systems for the provision of universal services. Nonetheless, some challenges still remain and other are have just started to appear. These include:
