The
Flight Mechanics Laboratory
The laboratory is equipped with four workstations, each with specialized software. Part of this
software has been developed in-house for research and teaching purposes in the flight mechanics
area.
The laboratory also hosts a fixed-base flight simulator prototype, entirely developed within the
Department. The requirements and specifications set for the project were chosen to obtain a
simulator with a high performance-to-costs ratio, to be employed both as a research tool in the
flight mechanics area and as a pilot training device. Important teaching aspects have also been taken
into account.
The main research topics under investigation at the laboratory include theoretical and experimental
activities on flight mechanics stability and control, flight simulation, spacecraft dynamics and control
and space mission analysis.
