Aircraft
Systems
A
research activity is being carried out since 1997 in the field
of the Aircraft Systems, concerning the study of Fly-by-Wire
Flight Control Systems (FBW/FCS) with hydraulic actuators. To
study the FBW/FCS as a whole, a model was set up which includes
most of its components. First of all, the dynamics of the hydraulic
actuators was modelled, including the servovalve, the structural
constraint stiffness, the oil compressibility and other non-linearities.
Then the main functions of the Flight Control Computer (FCC)
were included in a model describing the control laws of the
aircraft. Finally, the aircraft dynamics was modelled by a flight
simulator, in order to calculate the aerodynamic and inertial
loads on the control surfaces. Air-data sensors, inertial sensors
and position transducers of the actuators were also modelled.
The whole model proved to be a powerful tool to study the control
stability of the system in closed loop.
